arduino-core software package provides Code, examples, and libraries for the Arduino platform, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install arduino-core
arduino-core is installed in your system.
Make ensure the arduino-core package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep arduino-core *
You will get with arduino-core package name, version, architecture and description in a table
