binutils-spu software package provides GNU assembler, linker and binary utilities targeted for spu-elf, you can install in your Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install binutils-spu
binutils-spu is installed in your system.
Make ensure the binutils-spu package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep binutils-spu *
You will get with binutils-spu package name, version, architecture and description in a table
