beidgui software package provides application to read out information from the Belgian electronic ID card, you can install in your Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) by running the commands given below on the terminal,

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install beidgui 

beidgui is installed in your system.

Make ensure the beidgui package were installed using the commands given below,

$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep beidgui *

You will get with beidgui package name, version, architecture and description in a table
