avarice software package provides use GDB with Atmels JTAG ICE for the AVR, you can install in your Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install avarice
avarice is installed in your system.
Make ensure the avarice package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep avarice *
You will get with avarice package name, version, architecture and description in a table
